Black residence, fire-proof concept house.
Nevada City, CA
An evolution of the ferrocement dome concept, this semi-buried home blends thin-shell construction with conventional framing to meet California’s fire-adaptive future. The domes are set into the hillside, using earth for thermal stability and wildfire resistance. Lightweight yet durable, the shell forms open into sculpted, light-filled interiors that offer refuge and rhythm. Conventional roof lines meet curved geometry through vaulted transitions, merging craft and resilience. Defined by passive performance and raw simplicity, this is a home shaped by climate, terrain, and intention.
